Slots, without the mythology
Online slots are software from studios such as NetEnt, Play’n GO and Pragmatic Play, licensed to UKGC operators. Understanding paylines, volatility and RTP helps you read a lobby — it does not help you “beat” the game.
What a spin actually is
Each spin asks a certified random number generator (RNG) for an outcome. The reels you see are an animation of that result. UK-licensed games must be tested for fairness; that testing confirms the math model behaves as declared, not that players will leave ahead.

Return to Player (RTP) is a long-run statistical average — for example 96% means that, across a huge number of spins in lab conditions, the model returns £96 for every £100 staked. Your evening of fifty spins will almost never match that figure. UK rules require operators to make RTP information available; treat it as a property of the game, not a personal forecast. Some titles ship with multiple RTP configurations; the one offered on a given UK site is what matters for that lobby.
Themes and mechanics
Themes (mythology, fruit, adventure) are packaging. Mechanics carry the feel: cascading wins, expanding wilds, free-spin rounds, hold-and-spin bonus meters, cluster pays.
